How Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong Affects Public Transportation
Central Hong Kong is gridlocked with political protest. Local students do not support the changes in the election system of the Special Administrative Region developed bu central Chinese authorities. However, we would like to speak about the public transport now, not the politics.
In several central districts of Hong Kong streets are closed at least partially:
- Wan Chai (灣仔區)
- Admiralty (金鐘)
- Central (中環)
- Yau Tsim Mong (油尖旺區)
Around 70 bus lines are rerouted untill the end of the protest. Near 25 services are stopped. For more details check the following bus companies web sites and mobile apps: KMB, Citybus and NWFB.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) is operating without any delays. You can use the Airport Express rail service the Hong Kong Central Station without any problems too.
MTR, local subway system, also works as normal, even in the areas where streets are closed. That makes it the only option to reach some parts of Wan Chai, Admiralty, Central and Yau Tsim Mong Districts
Iconic double-decker tram seized its service between Western Market (西港城) and Victoria Park (維多利亞公園).
Situation is constantly changing. It is better to verify availability of service in due time.
